In an effort to acquaint more women with the wonderful sport of boating, Colorado Boat Center hosted it’s first Women Only class event in 2004.  Boating educators and women boaters share their knowledge and experiences as “Women Making Waves.”  Colorado Boat Center has been very aware of an intense interest by women to learn more about powerboating and we offer this course for those who have little or no opportunity to get behind the wheel of a boat and learn the basics in general.  More and more women are finding that this sport offers them a leisure option they enjoy…with friends, family and even on their own.

Since there were so many men who showed up at our first event expecting to be able to sit in on the classes and learn a few things themselves, in year two we inaugerated “Men In the Know.”  Couples can come participate at the same time, but in gender-specific classes.  Dividing the groups allows for a relaxed, non-intimidating learning experience for everyone.

Practice makes perfect, and as with any sport, powerboating requires a little practice to master the basics.  This event provides several breakout sessions that include trailering a boat, launching and loading, driving and docking a boat and knot tying.  Each session begins with a focus on water safety.
